APBP is the only national association for pedestrian and bicycle professionals. Unlike many other professional associations that shrank during the recession, APBP's membership has grown over 20% since 2009. Our loyal members are connected with each other through our website, the list serve, and the Professional Development Seminar.

As the monthly webinar program continues to meet training needs of agency staff and consulting firms, APBP is preparing to launch a new bicycle parking training initiative to complement existing pedestrian accessibility and Complete Streets workshops– watch for the call for instructors coming soon.

Most importantly, APBP was proactive in protecting member's jobs and livelihoods against attack after attack on bicycle and pedestrian funding in 2011-2012 (we remain vigilant).

This year at Pro Walk/Pro Bike® 2012 in Long Beach, California, APBP's members will enjoy a registration discount equivalent to the cost of their APBP membership. And next year, the 2013 Professional Development Seminar promises to be a rich opportunity to connect with peers and exchange information. Will you be there as a new Board member?

Here's what APBP Board members do: oversee the direction and management of the association, take responsibility for specific projects, recruit new members, ensure a solid, balanced budget, contribute to the association's financial success and represent APBP members at conferences and meetings. APBP's Board of Directors is an active board that makes a difference for our profession!

Four seats are open on the 2013 board. Terms are three years, and a member may serve two consecutive terms. Members elected this year will serve on the board from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2015.

Submit a 400 word statement of interest to kit@apbp.org by July 31. Your 400-word statement should include the following headings and describe (1) your qualifications; (2) what you would bring to the board; and (3) your vision for APBP. Keep in mind that your statement will be posted on the website and sent by e-news to all members.

Board candidates are encouraged to attend the APBP Annual Meeting at ProWalk/ProBike® in Long Beach, where they may make a two-minute campaign speech. The speeches will be recorded for later viewing on the APBP website. Candidates who cannot attend are invited to submit a two-minute video statement.
