Announces Election of Board Officers
CEDARBURG, WI – The Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals (APBP) has announced the annual election of board officers for 2011. Jennifer Hefferan, Safe Routes to School Coordinator for the District of Columbia Department of Transportation, was elected President. Brett Hondorp, AICP, a Principal with Alta Planning + Design in California, was named Vice President, while Eric Anderson, Bicycle and Pedestrian Programs, City of Berkeley Transportation Division, was elected Secretary. Philip Pugliese, Bicycle Coordinator, Outdoor Chattanooga, continues as Treasurer.
Hefferan, a registered landscape architect, has experience including a wide variety of nonmotorized design and planning projects. She started her career working for the City of Seattle Department of Transportation where she conducted a field assessment of 850 marked crosswalks at uncontrolled locations in the city and co-authored a corresponding article that was published in the ITE Journal (Institute of Transportation Engineers). Hefferan has never owned a car; she enjoys bicycling, walking and taking transit from her home in Washington, D.C.
Hondorp works on bicycle and pedestrian master plans, trail studies, Safe Routes to School programs, and other sustainable transportation projects for communities across the country. His international experience includes writing bicycle master plans for Dubai, UAE and Doha, Qatar. Brett is a National Safe Routes to School Course Instructor and a League Cycling Instructor. He lives in Oakland, California, and can often be spotted riding his cargo bike around the neighborhoods with his two-year-old daughter buckled in front.
Anderson has ten years of experience in the bicycle and pedestrian transportation field, spanning agency, consulting and advocacy roles. Before assuming his position as Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator for the city of Berkeley, California, he worked for Alta Planning + Design. He previously served as the Director of Planning for the Marin County Bicycle Coalition where he was involved with the planning and implementation of bicycle and pedestrian projects at the regional, county and local level as well helping to develop the Nonmotorized Transportation Pilot Program. Eric worked as one of the first staff members for the City of Chicago Bicycle Program, where he biked to every neighborhood in the city while conducting fieldwork. His first paid job in non-motorized transportation was delivering a paper route by bicycle and foot at age 11.
Pugliese was appointed Chattanooga's first bicycle coordinator in September, 2005. Actively engaged in bicycle advocacy, he has served as chair of the Chattanooga Bicycle Task Force and currently serves on the technical staff of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County-North Georgia Transportation Planning Organization and the Southeast Tennessee Rural Planning Organization. He is a League of American Bicyclists Cycling Instructor and member of the Alliance for Biking and Walking. Philip has over 20 years' experience in transportation and logistics operations and sales management. A graduate of Georgia State University, he also holds a Master's of Business Administration degree from the University of Tennessee.
