Description

This webinar explores different methods of evaluating the qualitative aspects of bicycling and walking facilities. Following an overview of the foundations and assumptions of traffic analysis and the Multimodal Level of Service method, we consider the limitations of MMLOS and ask what other promising approaches exist to evaluate the qualitative aspects of cyclist and pedestrian facilities. Two methods are reviewed in depth: the Bicycle and Pedestrian Environmental Quality Indices developed by the San Francisco Department of Public Health, and the Mineta Transportation Institute’s model of Low-Stress Bicycling and Network Connectivity (click here to download the MTI report: http://transweb.sjsu.edu/project/1005.html)

Presenters:
Peter Furth, Professor of Civil Engineering, Northeastern University
Conor Semler, Senior Planner, Kittelson and Associates
Megan Wier, Epidemiologist, San Francisco Department of Public Health

Recorded February 19, 2014
